Archive for August, 2011

So I talked my Husband into buying me a birthday/anniversary gift all in one. It is another craft toy for me, but I think there is money to be made with it.  I got a Silhouette SD Craft Machine and I LOVE it.

I have already made some great cards and I also made some neat embellishments for a few fall and Halloween projects!  I am soooo excited.

There are so many things that you can do with this machine and I learn something new every time I turn it on.  So keep checking back for some neat new projects.

Update on the kitchen that was… Still no answer from the insurance lady. Our cooking life is in her hands.  I am really getting tired of waiting.  My house is in total disarray.  Dishes in the guest bedroom, glasses in our bedroom,   pots and pans in the hallway.

NOT FUN! I hope to have some good news soon and when the construction starts I will post often on progress!

I hope your Sunday is  easy going with warm breezes, cool cocktails and great friends.  I will be doing some yard work then relaxing in the back yard swing for a bit!

Until Then,

Good Morning!

I hope that you are well. I am wonderful.  I woke up early this morning and the weather is so cool!! It was only 69 at 8:00a.m.  I wish it would stay this nice for a while but I know that we still have some heat lurking for about a month. Yuck. I am still searching for the place on a map where it is Fall all year round!!!

Well as you know my kitchen is still in shambles.  So no cooking or baking for the blog for a while.  But I made the most fun craft last night that I want to share with you.

You know how there always seem to be old gift cards lying around the house. And you always end up getting 2 of a kind??? Well re purpose them. Turn them into jewelry.  I made earrings and they are awesome.  Lets get started shall we?

You will need:

Old gift cards

A finger nail file

Earring hooks

Jump rings

 Push-pin and hammer,

or a drill and very small bit.

Pliers or jewelry making tools.

Look at the card(s) you have and decide what you want the earrings to look like.

I had a few options with this card.

Cut the card(s) up.

Use the file to round the edges of the design so they are not sharp.

This takes only a few minutes.

Now we get to make the holes.

Place something solid under the design so you do not make a hole in your furniture!!!

Decide where you want the hole  and hammer (lightly) the pushpin into the card.

You don’t want to crack the plastic!!

I used a drill because it is fast.

Oh who am I kidding.

I use power tools when I can because it’s FUN!!!

Add a jump ring and hook! Make sure to close them up good and tight!

And Presto, you have a great new pair of earrings!!

I made these for a Friend’s Birthday.

I hope she likes them!!

I hope that this turns your imagination up a notch.  With the Holiday season just around the corner you can get a jump on gifts!

Until Then,

My Goodness the weather is crazy these days.  I know that living in the South I should be used to the sudden changes but lately it seems to be getting worse.

I was at work Thursday evening and a really bad storm came through.  Being on the water ( no trees to see being  blown down) I did not understand the severity of it. When I got home that evening it was a whole other story.  All of the power was out on 3 major roads and trees were down all over the place.  I should have known that things were not normal when I drove up to my house and the power pole across the street was leaning.

Well it had stopped raining so I let the dogs out and walked out with them and what do you know. . . not 10 minutes later it started raining again.  So in we went and down came the rain.  I was in working on the computer when I heard my Husband calling me from the kitchen.  I walk in to find water pouring out of the light fixture, out of the ceiling and down the walls from behind and out of the cabinets. Needless to say, Chaos ensued!!!!! Many buckets and towels later we are outside with flash lights climbing on the roof to see the issue!

What a night!!

The contractor came out as well as the insurance people. We have drying machines all over the kitchen, the stove is in the center of the room, the floors have been ripped up and all of our kitchen supplies are in our bedroom.  Looks like some major construction in the near future!

I just hope it is finished before the fall season starts so I can enjoy my back yard!! Anyway I hope to have some projects finished really soon so I can share them with you. I hate that there is no baking or cooking in my plans for a while.

I know things could have been much worse. We are lucky!

If you look close you can see the water running down the wall!

Wish us Luck!

Until Then,
